Volunteer at Boo Hollow 🎃

Youth Volunteers

Boo Hollow is more than just a Halloween event — it’s a true community creation. From the very beginning, families, businesses, and neighbors have come together to make this magical village possible. Thirty families donated the play cottages their children had outgrown, and thirty local businesses stepped forward to sponsor them. Decorating teams are transforming each cottage into a whimsical storefront, while families across the community have contributed décor and Halloween treasures to fill every corner with charm. Tagawa Gardens generously sponsored the venue and is helping us host this first-of-its-kind experience. Now, as the village comes together, it’s our volunteers who will carry the vision across the finish line — creating an unforgettable Halloween tradition for families all across our community.

There are many ways to get involved at Boo Hollow — from sitting inside a cottage to hand out candy, to greeting families, helping with set-up and take-down, or keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes. No matter your role, you’ll be part of creating a safe and magical Halloween village for families to enjoy. Volunteers are also asked to wear a family-friendly costume for their shift (no masks, gore, or frightening themes) — think fun, creative, and colorful! Most shifts last 2–3 hours, and you can choose the role and time that best fit your schedule.

Our Shopkeepers are the Heartbeat of Boo Hollow!

Teens and tweens ages 10–17 get to sit inside one of our whimsical cottages and hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. It’s a simple role with a big impact — you’ll be part of the magic kids remember most. Feel free to bring a pillow or small cushion to sit on inside the cottage if you’d like extra comfort.

Volunteer Policy

Tickets: No ticket purchase is required for youth volunteers to serve their shift. This is our way of thanking them for helping bring Boo Hollow to life.

If shopkeepers (or their siblings/friends) would like to stay and enjoy Boo Hollow as guests after their volunteer shift — trick-or-treating, taking photos, or exploring the cottages — a ticket is required. Tickets are $10 and go toward covering event costs while raising funds for the nonprofits Boo Hollow was built to spotlight.

Parents of Youth Volunteers:
Parents/guardians do not need a ticket simply to remain onsite while their child volunteers. However, to enter Boo Hollow as a guest — exploring cottages, shopping with vendors, or trick-or-treating — a ticket is required.

  • Youth Ages 10–15: Must have a parent/guardian remain onsite during the shift. Parents don’t need to hover or sit at the cottage — our volunteer leads and candy runners will check in regularly — but they must be available if needed. While their child volunteers, parents are welcome to shop at Tagawa Gardens, visit vendors, or even sign up for their own volunteer role.

  • Youth Ages 16–17: May volunteer independently, with parent/guardian contact information provided at sign-up.

Costume Requirement (and Perk!)

One of the best parts of volunteering at Boo Hollow is dressing up! Costumes bring the village to life and make the whole experience magical. All volunteers must wear a family-friendly costume — no masks, gore, or frightening themes — but beyond that, we encourage creativity and fun.

Being a shopkeeper is a fun way to be part of the Boo Hollow team, see the event from the inside, and take part in a one-of-a-kind Halloween tradition. It’s also a great opportunity for older kids and teens to earn volunteer service hours for school, scouts, or community programs. Parents remain responsible for their children while onsite — and with plenty to enjoy at Tagawa and around the village, it’s a win-win for the whole family.
